Also when we are highly emotional, especially when we are stressed or angry, our body produces cortisol which results increased adrenalin, causing increased blood sugar which then causes our bodies to produce excess insulin to cope with this. The problem with this is that insulin is a growth hormone that also clings on to fat cells, hence the weight gain. I recently decided to check whether this is true and apparently it is. Your digestive system just doesn't work effectively during stress, and as a result you gain extra pounds even if you eat less.
